The largest career networking event held at the school yet, the 2020 SC&I Mingle enabled SC&I students to engage with alumni, faculty, and staff to find career information, inspiration, and direction.

At the sixth and largest career networking event in SC&I’s history, the 2020 SC&I Mingle, held December 2, attracted over 212 participants who engaged with alumni, faculty, and staff to explore career paths they have either dreamed of or just discovered, and gain practical career advice, inspiration, and direction.

Finding Your Starting Point: Career Exploration at the SJMC

As a professional school, helping students explore careers is a valuable part of SJMC’s undergraduate mission.  The pandemic has made fulfilling this mission more difficult—but not impossible.   

Director David Ryfe and Internship & Placement Coordinator Paul Jensen worked on this issue over the summer.  They came up with a series of webinars they call “Finding Your Starting Point.”  During these webinars, students meet alumni who have forged careers in the media industries.  In discussions with these alumni—fourteen of whom have participated so far—students have a chance to learn about what it is like to work in these industries.
