Julia HeardJulia Heard Witt, M.Ed., senior director of advising and recruiting for the College of Media & Communication, was recently recognized with a President's Excellence Award for her work in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion on the Texas Tech University campus.

Heard Witt was one of only six individuals (and the only staff member) to receive the President's Excellence in Diversity & Equity Award this year.

Other awardees included three students (one undergraduate and two graduate) and two faculty members. Award recipients were nominated by individuals on campus and selected by committees of their peers.

“I am delighted to see this recognition of the hard work, commitment to the cause and love for our students and our program that Ms. Heard Witt puts in every day,” said David D. Perlmutter, Ph.D., professor in and dean of the College of Media & Communication. “Her leadership within our college on the issues of diversity and equity provides a role model for us all.”

“I have spent my career advocating for students and this award means a lot to the university, college and me as an individual,” Heard Witt said.

“I will continue to push forward to make sure all students have positive and meaningful experiences during their time at both the college and the university I love and respect.”

According to the Texas Tech University website, the President's Excellence in Diversity & Equity Awards recognize students, staff and faculty who implement programs and engage in activities that emphasize the value of diversity and the importance of equity and inclusion at Texas Tech University.

Heard Witt will receive a $1,500 award for further professional development and will be recognized at an award luncheon in the fall.
